Beginners’ Course
If you’ve done archery before or know that you want to get involved right away, come to our Beginners’ Course.
When you’re ready to make a commitment, then a Beginners’ Course is for you. We run Beginners’ Courses in September (Freshers) and January (Re-Freshers).
The Beginners’ Course complies with Archery GB regulations; weekly sessions of 1-2-1 coaching and independent shooting give you the required 12 hours of coaching to take you from a complete novice to a safe archer.
If you demonstrate safe independent shooting, the course ends with a shiny certificate and an offer of membership with us at Hudds Archery.

We accept new beginners for the first 2 weeks of the course. After the first 2 weeks, we cannot accept new beginners. Please check the club calendar for the dates of our Beginners’ Courses.
Experienced Archer Assessment
If you’re already an experienced archer, contact us to arrange an assessment.

Once organised, bring along your AGB card (or other proof of AGB membership) with your own equipment and join us as a guest for a quick shoot. One of our experienced coaches will check that you comply with our safety standards, and upon successful completion you will be invited to join us immediately.
Competitions
For those who enjoy competing, we have lots on offer.
As a club we compete in the North of England University Archery League (NEUAL). This is a friendly indoor league between other university clubs, culminating in the NEUAL indoor championships in March.
Additionally, we take part in the British University Championships (BUCS), both indoors and outdoors.
We also run friendlies between ourselves (like our Head-2-Head in January) and other clubs (like our UHAC vs Valley match) which take place throughout the year.
Socials
If competition isn’t for you, don’t worry, we’re also social birds!
We have been running regular zoom socials on a Thursday night during the pandemic, and now shooting has begun again we visit Spoons after our Thursday shoots outdoors. We have occasionally hosted special socials between other university clubs (like our UHAC/Hudds Drama social in February '19).Check out our Facebook page for all the latest events, and our club calendar for planned shoots and events!
Coaching
We are home to a plethora of in-house coaches who are always on hand to help you improve.
We run dedicated coaching sessions both in and out of the range, and 1-2-1 coaching can be organised at request.
Equipment
Hudds Archery provides you with all the equipment needed to get you through the Have-A-Go sessions, Beginners’ Courses, and about the first 3-6 months of your archery career.
When your coach thinks you’re ready, we’ll invite you to come on a trip with us to our favourite archery supplier who will sell you all the gear you will have been using with us.
While it is okay to buy some archery gear online (personal equipment, such as arm guards, chest guards and finger slings), PLEASE DO NOT BUY BOWS FROM ONLINE SHOPS SUCH AS EBAY.
